Features to Consider When Installing Built-In Wardrobes

by Glen Shelton

A built-in wardrobe is a great choice for adding storage to any room of your home. They're typically used in bedrooms for clothes and accessories but can also be used in rooms where you keep your crafts and hobbies, or they can double as an entertainment centre in a small family room. When you're ready to have a built-in wardrobe installed in your home, don't settle for just a simple closet-like design. Note a few features you might consider that can make your built-in wardrobe more functional and practical for your home.

1. Mirrored doors

Adding mirrors to the front of your wardrobe, whether it's across the entire front or just in a line across the unit, can mean brightening up a dark and small room. Mirrors bounce around light and in turn can make the smallest and darkest of rooms seem larger and brighter. A tall mirror can also help with dressing each morning, as you then don't need an additional full-length mirror in the room.

2. Space for a TV

In a bedroom, you might have a cut-out shelf space in the middle of your wardrobe for a TV. This allows you to keep a TV in the bedroom without having it take up valuable space on a dresser, or having to go through the trouble of mounting a flat screen on a wall. A separate TV shelf can make the TV less unsightly, as it will then also cover the wires in the back of the television and make your room seem more organized and less cluttered.

3. Slide-out tie or accessories peg

If you wear neckties or have a large collection of scarves, you know how difficult it is to keep them organized but still at your fingertips. A built-in wardrobe can have a long peg that slides out from the unit and from which you can hang scarves or neckties. This keeps them from getting wrinkled or disorganized, and it allows you to easily see each one at a glance.

4. Pegs for jewellery and accessories

Inside the doors of your built-in wardrobe, consider adding pegs or hooks of some sort. These can be used to hang necklaces and bracelets, belts or other such accessories. This too keeps your items organized so they don't get jumbled in a drawer, it and also helps you to see everything that you own, so you can easily pick out the accessories you need for that day.
