Interior Design Ideas For Small Shops

by Glen Shelton

The thing about doing the interior design in a small retail shop is that it should ultimately be aimed at making the most out of the small available space.  This simply means that you and your shop fitter need to come up with a solid strategy about how your products will be organized as well as the interior design that will go into the small space.

There are a number of ways through which your interior design choices can maximize the usage of the little available space. With this in mind, here are a few interior design ideas for small retail shops.

Consider Having An Accent Wall

When thinking of paintwork for interior walls, it would be a good idea to consider having one wall painted in a bold color that is different from the others. This will make your shop look livelier in addition to making it appear bigger than it actually is. This is because the bold colored wall creates the illusion that the space in your shop is receding.

Alternatively, instead of painting the wall, you can achieve the same effect by having colorful wallpaper, photos or printed fabric on one of the walls in your shop. With this you get to kill two birds with one stone since the wallpaper or printed fabric also serve to increase the aesthetic appeal of your shop.

Consider Having Window-Like Effects On The Walls

Window-like effects on the walls of your retail shop will open up the shop and make it seem much larger. This is because these effects create the illusion of more light and greater movement within the small space.

You can create window-like effects in a number of ways, the most common of which is installation of skinny mirrors at strategic locations within the shop.

Display Your Products Vertically

Another way to maximize on the little available space is choosing a vertical display for your products. It would be a good idea to have shelves arranged vertically around the shop such that you increase the product carrying capacity of your shop. In addition to this, vertical display of products is known for its great visual appeal to customers.

It would also be a good idea to mount drapes and similar items from your roof down to the floor such that you eyes will be drawn up most of the time. This gives the illusion of a larger space
