Services Offered By An Emergency Carpet Repair Company

by Glen Shelton

When you think of carpet repair, you typically don't think of a service that you need performed the same day something goes wrong, but there are several situations involving your carpet that require immediate repair to prevent further damage. In those instances, you will need to call on an emergency carpet repair company, and if you're not sure when it's appropriate to hire these professionals, here are the services they can offer you.

Carpet Flooding Repair -- Probably the most common reason to call on an emergency carpet repair service is after you've suffered a flood in your home or office. If you've had a mishap such as a water heater explosion, or your roof caved in because of a leak during a storm, your carpets may be exposed to water, and that will require repair. An emergency carpet repair professional will inspect and evaluate the condition of your carpet, and then his first task will be to remove as much water from the carpet as possible. This is usually done with the use of an industrial strength wet/dry vacuum, which suctions water from the fibers at a high rate of speed.

Once the water is suctioned, the next step is to dry the carpet using air blowers and dehumidifiers and then to apply anti-bacterial chemicals to prevent the fibers from turning brown. The last step of repair is to do a steam cleaning, which involves pressurized hot water mixed with a cleaning solution that penetrates deep into the fibers to extract any remaining dirt and debris. The hot water also kills any bacteria that's still in the carpet.

Patching Repair -- If your carpet suffers a chemical burn or fire damage, you may not need to have the entire carpet replaced. An emergency carpet repair technician can perform what is known as patching, a process by which he will cut out all sections of the carpet that need repair and replace those sections with brand new carpet that matches the exact thickness and fiber texture of the existing carpet. In most cases, the carpet repair technician will order sections of the same carpet you have in your home or office, then cut that to specifications. The new sections are either glued onto the old section, or a special epoxy resin is used to attach the new carpet squares. Patching is useful if the damage to your carpet isn't so extensive that total replacement makes sense and is most often used for chemical burns, cigarette burns, bleach accidents and pet stains.
